How do I keep leaves and maple keys out of the tub on a treed lot in Byron or Old South?
Keep the cover on whenever the tub is not in use and add a cover lifter so it is never dragged across the deck. Sweep the cover with a soft brush before you open it, and set a filter cycle to run after you close up in the evening. A tub placed a few feet outside the drip line of a maple collects far less debris than one directly beneath it.
Will lake-effect snow west of London be a problem for the cover?
The cover is built to carry a normal load, but repeated heavy dumps in Strathroy, Lucan or Ilderton should be brushed off rather than left to sit and turn to ice. Push snow toward the hinge side with a foam brush, never a shovel edge. If a storm drops more than a foot, clear it the same day, because wet snow that freezes overnight is what bows a cover.
Does it cost more to heat a tub in a Strathroy winter than in the city?
A little, and mostly because of wind rather than temperature. A tub on an exposed rural lot loses more heat through the cover seam than one behind a fence in Westmount, so placement near the house or a windbreak matters more out there than the model does. Should I fill from the well or truck in water for a rural tub near Ingersoll or Dorchester?
Most rural customers fill from the well and it works fine once a metal sequestering product goes in on fill day. Iron and hardness are the usual issues in Oxford and Middlesex wells, so bring a sample to the showroom and we will test it before delivery. If the well runs low in late summer, a water hauler can fill a full size tub quickly and some owners prefer that for the first fill.
Where should the tub go on a new build in south or northwest London?
Most new lots in Summerside, Talbot Village and Hyde Park are graded to drain toward the rear swale, so the pad needs to sit level on compacted base rather than on fresh fill that will settle. Keep the tub within a reasonable run of the panel to hold down the electrical cost, and check with the city on setbacks from the property line before the concrete goes in. If the fence is going in the same season, leave the gate at least three feet wide for the dolly.
